Cowboys in Paradise

2009, 82 minutes in Indonesian and English with English Subtitles

A documentary film by Amit Virmani

Thousands of women travel to Bali each year in search of paradise.  And many find it in the arms of the Kuta Cowboys.  Masters at peddling the holiday-romance concoction.  Learn what separates the Cowboys from the garden-variety gigolos.  Discover how chance encounters on the beach have major ramifications for an entire economy.  And witness why Paradise, once a Cowboy's most useful ally, is always elsewhere.
The film also charts the typical trajectory of a Cowboy's life, from entry into beach life to his reign at the top of the tourist industry chain, before following his heartbreaking descent into obsolescence.  By the end, the myth of paradise is shattered and the viewer is presented with a more realistic proposition- Paradise is always elsewhere.
The controversial film was featured on CNN, BBC and various international media, and is regarded as a valuable counterpoint to "Eat, Pray, Love".
